ZIH HPC Documentation¶
This is the documentation of the HPC systems and services provided at TU Dresden/ZIH. Resources are funded by Nationales Hochleistungsrechnen (NHR) and the Free State of Saxony.
This documentation will be continuously updated, since we try to incorporate more information with increasing experience and with every question you ask us.
If the provided HPC systems and services helped to advance your research, please cite us. Why this is important and acknowledgment examples can be found in the section Acknowledgement.
News¶
- JupyterHub will be discontinued in March 2027. Please switch to Open OnDemand.
- Next Introduction to HPC at ZIH presentation will take place on November 4th 2026 8.30am - 1pm (online). Details and BBB link
- 2026-10-27 Systems offline due to security vulnerability
- Due to a security vulnerability, several systems, including parts of the
TU Dresden self-service portal and the project management software,
have been taken offline. The affected systems are gradually being upgraded.
Until these upgrades are complete, some workflows will be slightly different:
- External users and guest accounts: Instead of completing the web form in the self-service portal, users must fill out the PDF form and send it to hpc-support@tu-dresden.de. Digital signatures are sufficient.
- Courses and bulk registrations: Project administrators are asked to send a signed email to hpc-support@tu-dresden.de, including the relevant login credentials and the course's project name.
- Project statistics: Statistics can be requested by emailing hpc-support@tu-dresden.de. Please keep such requests to a minimum.
- Non-NHR applications: Applications for non-NHR projects cannot be submitted at this time. Existing HPC projects, i.e. HPC access will not expire due to these circumstances.
- 2025-11-20 Quokka Filesystem is ranked 23rd on the IO500 list (10 node production)
- 2025-09-04 Updated Alpha Centauri
- 2025-09-04 High IOPS filesystem quokka added for Alpha Centauri and Romeo
